THE 2019 CIArb PRESIDENT’S PRIZE

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (the CIArb), based in London, annually invites its Recognised Course Providers (RCPs) from around the globe to enter their best Module 4 arbitral award-writing students to be considered for its Student of the Year President’s Prize.

2019 was no different. The Association, as the CIArb’s RCP for Southern Africa, entered its best Module 4 arbitral award-writing students.

We are proud to announce that Alissa Nayanah, then a Fellowship Admission Course student of the Association, was awarded the coveted 2019 CIArb President’s Prize. The CIArb President’s Prize was awarded to Alissa on the basis of her outstanding award in the Stairway to Hell (Pty) Ltd v Hoo-Flung and the Dung Beetles assignment.

Alissa is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa who obtained her LLB (cum laude) and LLM in Business Law degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She is a Fellow of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa), a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) and a Senior Associate at Adams and Adams Attorneys in Cape Town.

Alissa’s CIArb President’s Prize certificate, annexed for all to see, together with her trophy will be officially handed to her at a ceremony during the Association’s next Western Cape weekend workshop later in the year.

Congratulations Alissa, we are proud to have you as a Fellow!
