COLLABORATION: CESA AND THE ASSOCIATION

The Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa) NPC has, throughout its existence of almost 50 years, fostered close relationships with like-minded organisations, particularly those within the built environment.

One of the Association’s allies has always been the Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA).  Many members of the Association are employees of CESA members and vice versa. Courses and workshops presented for purposes of continuing professional development benefit those affiliated to both organisations.  A number of Fellows of the Association are CESA President’s Panel members and, as such, both organisations appoint these ADR practitioners as arbitrators, adjudicators and mediators, particularly in construction- and engineering related disputes.

Co-operation between the Association and CESA has always been informal.  However, to place the relationship on a firmer footing and to exploit it to the benefit of everyone affiliated to both organisations, I on behalf of the Association recently concluded a written memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CESA represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chris Campbell (Pr Eng).

It gives me pleasure to announce that the aims and objectives of the MoU include the following:

  1. To encourage the attendance at presentations, events, workshops and the like offered by either organisation by making available access to marketing platforms including bulk email, social media and the like;
  2. To provide for discounts within the sole discretion of each organisation for members of the other organisation when attending presentations, events, workshops and the like, and treat attendees as if they were members of the presenting organisation;
  3. To facilitate CPD accreditation wherever possible;
  4. To jointly co-operate on platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and the like with a view to promoting the two organisations;
  5. To make their facilities available to each other on commercial- and practical terms to be agreed on an ad hoc basis when such facilities are available;
  6. To propose other initiatives which will facilitate the achievement of the aforesaid aims and objectives in order to promote mutual co-operation between the organisations.

We look forward with renewed enthusiasm to the continuation of a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship and co-operation, and we wish CESA all the best in its endeavours.
